Hanukkah with Jewish Gateways
Eight Nights of Hanukkah in 2024: Wednesday, December 25 – Wednesday, January 2
Hanukkah (also spelled Chanukah) is a joyful celebration for Jews and their families and friends. It lasts for eight days and is often called the Festival of Lights. During Hanukkah, Jews all around the world light a special candle holder called a menorah, adding one candle each night. We also enjoy delicious treats fried in oil, which is a symbol of the holiday, like potato pancakes called latkes and jelly-filled doughnuts called sufganiyot. Hanukkah reminds us of the miracle that happened long ago when a tiny bit of oil kept the candles of the menorah burning for eight days. It is a time for friends, family, fun, and remembering the importance of persistence and hope.

Share the light and warmth of Hanukkah with our community!
Grab your menorah and join us on the third night for singing, blessings, and candle lighting with Rabbis Bridget Wynne, Steph Kennedy, and Ruth Adar on Zoom. All are welcome! Following our Hanukkah celebration, we'll light Shabbat candles and sing blessings over wine or juice and challah, with an opportunity to say Kaddish, the memorial prayer, for anyone you're remembering.
